WE GATHER EXHIBITION | CRAFTS COUNCIL GALLERY
NOVEMBER 2021 - MARCH 2022
AWARD WINNER FOR - EXCELLENCE IN DIVERSITY & INCLUSION - BIRMINGHAM CITY UNIVERSITY
We Gather - Upholds female makers of colour and acknowledges cultural exclusions from craft
“This exhibition has offered us a unique opportunity to curate in honour of women who share similar experiences and frames of reference to our own, but also within a mainstream cultural organisation that we haven’t traditionally seen ourselves.”
Rosie Ross & Griffi
We Gather curated by Rosie Ross and Griffi brought together the work of five female artists of Black and Asian heritage living and working in the UK: Shaheen Ahmed, Lorna Hamilton-Brown, Omeima Mudawi-Rawlings, Francisca Onumah and Onome Otite.
The exhibition supported and enriched the research of Dr Karen Patel in her Craft Expertise report - the outcome of an AHRC-funded UKRI/RCUK Innovation Fellowship for Birmingham City University, delivered in collaboration with Crafts Council.
